Dry Skin On Face – The Most Common Causes

Dry Skin on Face

Causes and Best Way to Get Rid Of It

Lots of us experience some sort of dry skin on face at some point. Before actually looking at possible remedies and ways to get rid of it, what actually causes dry skin on your face in the first place?

Dry Skin On Face – The Main Causes

Dehydration

Not getting enough water into your system is a particularly common cause for dry skin to appear on your face, but that’s not the only thing that factors into dehydration. Tobacco, alcohol and caffeine are three substances that pull much-needed water out from the skin. Less tobacco, alcohol and caffeine – coupled by more water – can help solve the issue of dry skin for some people.

Too much sun

Direct and prolonged exposure to the sun will not only dehydrate the skin but also do some serious damage to it if left unmonitored. Age spots, melanoma and even skin cancer are some conditions that can result from the damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays, so a healthy dose of sunscreen coupled with a wide-brimmed hat should help protect your face.

This is common cause for dry skin on face, and one you need to be especially careful of, due to the other more serious affects that sun can have on the skin! This also applies to sun beds, and they can actually magnify the damage on your skin.

Hot Water

Very hot water can heat the skin to the point where water simply evaporates off of it and can be another reason for dry skin on face. This is the reason why our skin feels very tight whenever we step out of a hot shower or bath. Switching to lukewarm showers is the best way to deal with this issue. That doesn’t mean to say that you should avoid a hot shower at all costs, but, when taking a hot shower, be sure to limit the time you spend in there.

Dry Skin On FaceLow Humidity/ Cold Air

Very cold air is typically dry, while most forms of air conditioning (hot or cold) have a tendency to suck the moisture out of the air as well. This is the reason why winter does a double-whammy for facial skin. The freezing air is already pretty much devoid of water, while heaters and furnaces dry up that air even further.

This can also be a common cause of dry skin on your face, and why lots of people suffer from it more so, in the winter, or colder weather.

Excessive, harsh cleansing

Washing your face once a day with specifically designed facial wash is good for your face! Washing your face five times a day with body soap is not good for your face. Not only is body soap too harsh for the sensitive skin of the face, but washing too frequently can actually damage the skin and cause it to die off resulting in dry skin on face.

Getting Rid Of Dry Skin On Face

Avoiding the above causes where possible is what you should do first. Secondly, if already suffering from dry skin on your face, facial moisturizers are one option to replenish the skin with water.

There are many types of moisturizers specifically designed for the face, so be sure to do your research well when selecting.
